CPAC Friday Afternoon
Feb 10th
I went downstairs to Woodley Market to get some lunch and my goodness there are a lot of people here. Tons of young people. Tons!
Apparently OWS has arrived in baseball uniforms saying “Tax Dodgers” and carrying baseball bats. I suspect they are being thrown out as I write this.
Here comes Mitt!
Big big reception – the biggest so far I think. The head of the ACU introduced him and everyone is asking if that is an endorsement.
Romney congratulates Obama on organizing this community, conservatives. Defeating Obama is just one step we also need to save the country. It will be easy to beat Obama (silence). History will record Obana will record Obama as the last gasp of liberalism. (Mitt makes me want to take a nap, even in person).
We don’t just cling to our guns and religion we also cling to our constitution. America doesn’t just exist for the people, it’s been made great by the people.
BO is the poster child for the arrogance of government. Are we a nation of and by Washington, or a nation of and by free people.
Huge ovation when Romney says he is not going to apologize for Bain capital. Now he talks about his MA experience. My recollection is that he had no impact which might be the best thing you can say about anyone in office.
He brags about prohibiting couples from coming to MA to marry (gay marriage). Why think of the profit we could make.
On with social issues, he brags about his conservative cred. I think he is exaggerating.
What distinguishes us from Obama is our life experiece. Touts his business cred, the Olympics,- it’s like he is still introducing himself. Leadership is about taking spreading credit when times are good, and taking responsibility when they are not.
I haven’t spent a day in Washington and I owe nothing. Any politician that tries to tell you they hated Washinton so much they couldn’t leave is a ….
DO pols generally criticize each other at CPAC?
In the weeds….
No raising taxes, or sacrificing military I will balance the budget and that will start with the easiest cut of all, I will eliminate Obamacare – standing ovation.
I will reduce the size of the federal workforce and I will tie condensation to the private workforce because government should not get a better deal than the people paying for them.
Medicare and social security are unsustainable. I’ll fix. We will raise the retirement age and not give rich people as many benefits.
Obama will not lecture to us on values after so much ineptitude and pain on Americans. Standing O from some.
Americans are yearning for the truth. I will cut off funding for UN for 1 child china policy, no federal support for planned parenthghood and will get rid of regulations that attack religion.
We will be the greatest military power on the earth. If you do not want America to be the strongest nation on earth, I am not your president.

CPAC Day 2
Feb 10th
On Day 1, the Marriott lost its wifi. I love this “press thing” but sheesh you spend more time on logistics than you do on anything like reporting. Bob McDonnell is on the stage now. We are in the balcony. (We being “the press”). Not the Brian Williams type press, but all the little guys who you have never seen or met, but hopefully will read one of thses days. Yesterday we were on the legitimate side of the balcony. This morning it was full so I hijacked another spot and coerced a bunch of people to come with me. I can actually see the stage today.
The room is huge, with 2 massive screens flanking the stage.People clap for the screen. It’s very funny.
Pastor Freeze: 3 people, a liberal a conservative and a moderate walked into a bar. The bartender said: “Hi Mitt”.
Introducing Rick Santorum.
Santorum’s son has on his sweater vest. He brings the family up on stage with them, except for Bella who is doing just fine.
Conservatives failed conservatism. We have kerned our lesson. We will no longer apologize for our principles.
We (conservatives and tea par tiers) are not wings of the republican party, we are the republican party.
Supply side economics for the working man. We will balance the budget.
The entire family looks exhausted.
Rights don’t come from the government they come from a much higher authority. We see what happens when gov gives you rights – if gov gives your rights, gov can take them away. I’m in this race because I think Obamacare is a game changer for America. Margaret Thatcher said it was the British health care system that kept her from accomplishing everything. (Meryl Streep would differ.)
Government control of your lives has got to stop. (Standing ovation).
Obama scares you by saying the earth is in peril. They did it with this thing called man-made global warming. (My God I feel sorry for his kids, they have to stand there and just listen over and over)
Now he is talking about hydro-franking.
I’m missing a lot of this answering endless text messages, but the audience is yelling for Rick. Now he is bashing Romney.
Huge standing ovation for Santorum.

Jim Inhofe
4 things most dangerous to the country
1. Budget/debt
2. Disarming america
3. destroy domestic energy in American thru overregulation
4. regulating CO2 3-400b a year at a cost of $3k plus to every person.Inhofe is trying to say too much too fast/ good stuff but too much of it.
Carly Fiorina: She looks pretty good.
Having traveled all over the world, I know that my story is only possible in America. We are founded on a radical idea – that we all have god given gifts and can use them to fill our potential, and only Gpod can take them away.
I have just asked the guy from Reuters if he thinks there is a problem with the media. Stay tuned:
Back to Fiorina: we are making the dream too hard for too many people. And as a cancer survivor I know how bad Obamacaare is for the people.
We need to make the senate candidates win.
~~
Problem with the media: My neighbor agrees that the media is in Obama’s hand and suggests that if anyone turns on Obama all their sources (lobbyists) will dry up. I tell him that the media is responsible for everything bad going on in this country and someone has to stand up and risk it all for the truth. He agrees.
Ann Coulter:
“Greetings 1%ers! Michale Moore is only one person and he controls 33% of the world’s cholesterol. title of my next book is Nancy Pelosi moves to Luxemberg.
You can’t love a child with nuclear arms. What does that mean and why is that bumper sticker all over Gerry Sandusky’s car.
The Jugeared in teh WH has spent 4 trillion and made no jobs. When he asks for the next trillion republicans should say “what happened to the last trillion?”
Obama would make a lovely next door neighbor as long as you are not chinese because then he would be constantly borrowing stuff.
When is it going to be okay to say we elected a man based on the color of his skin (applause)
I’m talking about John Boehner.
CHris Christie -takes on the evil empire of our day – the public sector unions. Christie no longer returns my calls. In the llsat year Obama has gotten worse and Romney has gotten better.
Independents are fleeing Obama, and rigfght now based on his approvals he is not headed for re-election. Obama has to run on his record this time and the only people calling for hope and change is us.
This is the most immportant election of our life time because it is the only chance to repeal Obamacare. Who are you willing to stake your future on. On election day, every woman will be sobbing on the way to the polls because they are afraid of Newt Gingrich. To stake everything on annoying independents, women and something else is really dumb.
Re Mitt: you can’t call himj dumb, you can’t call him crazy but you can call him square. Haven’t we had enough of hip?
questions: “I’m in college and people always ask me how you can be female and conservative’?
All good looking woman are conservative. And from Weiner, Clinton, and DSK we know how liberal men treat woman.
Free birth control helps Bill Clinton, Anthony Weiner and DSK.
How confident are you that ROmney will do what he says if he gets elected?
You would have to be insane to think Mitt won’t repeal Obamacare. There are no more Rockefeller republicans running anymore. We have won. (she is stretching). It’s not about ginning up the audience. Romney is the most conservative, has the strongest position on illegal immigration (the most important thing after Obamacare).
Gingrich is not more conservative.
GM, the Treasury, and You.
Feb 8th
By James Kahn
A recent article J. Mark Ramseyer and Eric Rasmusen in Cato’s new Papers on Public Policy series details how the Treasury, in the course of its acquisition of GM stock, conveniently exempted itself from a provision that would normally have eliminated (through bankruptcy and resulting changes in ownership) some $45 billion (with a book value of $18 billion) in tax loss carry-forwards. In doing so, it gave itself a nice capital gain, making it seem that the government’s involvement was less costly to taxpayers. Of course higher value of GM stock for the Treasury and other new shareholders (including the UAW) is exactly offset by the loss in tax revenues. It is as if the Treasury took funds from other sources and put them into GM to conceal the real loss to the taxpayers of the government’s participation in GM’s “rebirth.”
The bigger issue this highlights is the apparent freedom with which government agencies can make arbitrary decisions that laws and regulations do not apply to them, and potentially distribute the benefits to politically favored groups, or conceal the true costs of their policies. There is little doubt but that the GM case is just one blatant example.

Sixteen to Support
Feb 1st
This post marks the start of a new series here at You Too. The election cycle has begun and we have work to do to protect the influence already gained by the Tea Party by supporting incumbents while also searching out and highlighting new candidates in order to increase the effective power of the coalition. It’s very important for all Tea Party supporters to understand that although all current Tea Party Caucus members are Republican, the Republican Caucus as a whole cannot be counted upon to provide the level of support necessary to successfully fight the electoral battles in districts with first term incumbents. The Tea Party Caucus is a thorn in the side of the Republican Caucus and party leaders will direct funds to incumbents and challengers outside the Tea Party Caucus before dribbling out funds to Tea Party members.
Following are links to the campaign websites of the sixteen Tea Party first term incumbents. There are currently over 60 Tea Party Caucus members and the entire list can be found here with links to other incumbents websites.
Sandy Adams (FL-24), Diane Black (IN-06), Bill Cassidy (LA-06), Jeff Duncan (SC-06), Blake Farenthold (TX-27), Stephen Fincher (IN-08), Vicky Hartler (MO-04), Tim Huelskamp (KS-01), Jeff Landry (LA-03), David McKinley (WV-01) Mick Mulvaney (SC-06), Rich Nugent (FL-05), Dennis Ross (FL-12), Tim Walberg (MI-07), Joe Walsh (IL-08) and Allen West (FL-22)
Take the time to look at those websites and pick the candidate you like best. Make a financial commitment to support the candidate every month until the election. Don’t forget that you’re going to be supporting another new Tea Party challenger as well as the incumbent you choose. Above all, don’t ever believe that a donation of $20 per month is too small to make a difference. Thirty=seven per cent of the voters in yesterday’s Florida primary were Tea Party supporters. That’s over 600,000 people and if they all committed to $20 per month it would mean $12 million per month going to Tea Party candidates – $120 million by the election. Just the Floridian Tea Party supporters could cover the cost of 40 successful campaigns.
Change will not occur until you decide that they aren’t fit to run things any more – and back up your words with acts.
