Bummer dude

So we’ve watched the NY Times and Washington Post lick their chops over recently released Sarah Palin emails. after waiting 1000 days for the emails to be released, the NY Times was so breathless about exposing how stupid Sarah is, they asked their readers to help sort through the 10,000 pages so they could get the worst out before the Sunday news shows. What a coup! And what a precedent.

Thud!

The Sarah Palin emails reveal that she was a smart, attentive, hard working governor, who implemented the same free market principles that she continues to espouse today. They also reveal the demonic left was after her back in her governor days too. Now a few people look bad in those emails, Lisa Murkoski for one. Then again Murkowski is no fan of Palin – and vice versa. The left is having a very hard time reconciling those emails with the narrative their beloved NY Times has embraced of Palin. Seems Sarah is a whole lot smarter than Pinch.

One good thing to come out of this – we now have a precedent. I’d like to see the emails our president wrote as a state senator. The administration should be happy to turn them over, in the name of transparency, of course. I’m sure they will confirm the media narrative that Obama is the smartest man on the planet.

I won’t wait for the media to ask for help sorting through the Obama emails. For some reason they really aren’t terribly interested in the President’s past. Hell, we are still waiting for the LA Times to release the Obama-Khalidi Tape from 2008, but gee, something keeps holding them back. No worried. I know a whole lot of bloggers who will happily get on the case. We’ll read them and report on them, so you don’t have to, NY Times.

I can’t imagine any objection, since there is no double standard, right democrats?

Sturbridge Tornado – “Thank you Sturbridge”

I was on my way up Whittemore** Rd a few minutes ago to deliver a giant sized Dahlia to some tornado victims, when I saw it.

Willard Rd has been closed since the tornado hit. It sits below Fiske Hill Rd and got the brunt of the tornado before it lifted up to circle the top of Wihttemore and Fiske Hill. While you still can’t travel down the road, the dearth of trees allows you to get a glimpse of the damage while traveling down Rte 131. Today, at the bottom of Whittemore where the National Guard has been standing watch for the last week, was a piece of plywood, maybe 18 inches square, propped up against a rock crudely painted to say: “THANK YOU STURBRIDGE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT”.

It takes a lot to make me cry, but I could barely hold back the tears. My pride in this town just continues to swell. While residents do all they can to help the people hit the hardest, the people hit the hardest continue to show their thanks.

We are lucky here. Relatively few people were badly hit in Sturbridge, which leaves about 3000 people to help them out. By my count, everyone is busy.

**Whittemore, not McGilpin. My apologies – corrected now.

Sturbridge Tornado – Aerial Pix

Here is a slide show of aerial pix from the tornado. They are from adjacent towns. Yesterday I went down Rte 131 which has recently re-opened and the at last week was woods, today looks like matchsticks. These trees are from Brimfield, the next town and the home of the Brimfield Fair. Thanks to MicMurre for sending them to me and telling me the link didn’t work. Sheesh!

TGIF

One of the blessings of the Sturbridge Tornado is that I missed most of Weinergate. Not that I didn’t find it both hilarious and gross. Particularly fun is watching how vigorously the pro-weiners defend the man. These are the same people who wanted Mark Foley lynched for sending text messages. Business as usual I guess.

Newt Gingrich’s entire staff quit yesterday. Apparently Newt’s decision to stop campaigning for 2 weeks to take a trip to the Greek Isles was too much for them. (I highly recommend a trip to the Greek Isles, but probably not while campaigning for president.)

Next week Darryl Issa is holding hearings about Operation Fast and Furious. The word is the Justice Department is panicking. As they should. The Justice Department via the bureau of Alcohol and Firearms okayed the sale of assault weapons to Mexican drug cartels. Apparently the goal was to track who was buying the weapons. Instead the weapons were used to kill people including US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. Prior to that field agents pleas to stop what amounted to a gun distribution program to drug cartels were ignored. It’s hard to imagine Eric Holder won’t do everything in his power to stop this investigation. We shall see.

Tomorrow the Sturbridge Tea Party will be selling Tea Shirts at the West Brookfield flea market. Part of the proceeds will go to tornado relief. Stop by if you can.

Sturbridge Tornado: CLEAN-UP so you don’t have to

File this under “people you want to know”.

After the tornado hit a week ago today, trees were down everywhere. Streets were impassable, driveways were blocked, huge trees covered previously bare yards. Fiske Hill, known for its privacy due to the gigantic trees was suddenly bare, as far as the eye could see.

On Thursday Morning, Amy and Mary ran into a guy who offered to help them clear the trees from their driveway, pool, fences and yard. The man, Michael Aja has a company called Clean-Up (so you don’t have to). It’s a company located in nearby Spencer, which specializes in landscaping services, and snow plowing. Aja quoted a very reasonable daily rate and set to work.

And work he did. And did. And did. I don’t think I have been at Amy’s house once since the tornado when Mike hasn’t been there chopping trees, turning them into chips. and carting them away. He works at least a 12 hour day, which is incredible when you think he is charging a daily rate.

After working Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Mike showed up on Monday and announced that Monday and Tuesday are his weekend, and those two days are on him.

A week ago Mike Aja was a total stranger, from an adjacent town who Amy didn’t know from Adam. Today he is part of the family.

Last night Amy took a large fold-up table and put it by the street with a huge sign that says: WE LOVE CLEAN-UP LANDSCAPE, COME ASK US WHY!

Seems we are starting out own tornado, Angie’s list.

On another note, the insurance adjusters were out today. Another set of great guys. The house will need a new roof and third floor. The work is just beginning.
