The latest from Matt’s Meditations:

We got another dose of the president’s policy of saying one thing and doing another today when he spoke about energy policy. From CNBC:

“Obama sought to deflect growing Republican attacks over rising prices at the pump, blaming recent increases on a mix of factors beyond his control, including tensions with Iran, hot demand from China, India and other emerging economies, and Wall Street speculators taking advantage of the uncertainty.”

It has nothing at all to do with his green energy agenda, or his war on the coal industry, or his recent veto of the Keystone XL pipeline, or the shutdown of Gulf oil after the horribly mismanaged Deepwater Horizon disaster or the sabotage of gas and oil drilling in the Cook Inlet in Alaska, or the campaign of delay and obstruction of drilling in northern Alaska. Nothing at all.

Throw in the war on frakking, and at every step, our government has blocked any effort to build energy independence. This as our reputed allies the Saudis have throttled back production, earning an additional $180 Million per day based upon a 9 million bbl/day output.

His own Press Secretary, Jay Carney the other day tried to blame the Republicans for the Keystone XL veto and was laughed off the podium by an ecumenical mix of members of the press corpse. Every day the exercise resembles more and more the 5 O’Clock Follies famed for their lies and exaggerations back in the days of the Vietnam War. Sometimes it’s positively Orwellian.

Obama is getting exactly what he wished for. I sat in an audience of over 1,000 executives when the head of one of the largest green energy associations in the world clearly outlined their objective of increasing the cost of conventional energy so that green energy would be competitive. The words “green energy subsidy” have a negative connotation these days, but the practice of raising conventional energy prices seems to be working well.

After promising support for nuclear energy since the beginning of his administration, the first new reactor to be built in 25 years was just approved recently.

The President’s record speaks for itself and is pellucid. As billions of dollars have disappeared down green energy ratholes, virtually every alternative has been stymied time and again.

The President’s policies whether on the economy or Afghanistan or energy have consistently blamed his predecessors or others. There is both a lack of leadership and a hidden agenda.

The history of rising energy costs and recessions is closely intertwined. A fragile recovery after the worst recession since the Great Depression is a danger to us all. We cannot afford a President who consistently blames others.
